The world's largest military spenders
This chart ranks the world’s largest reported military spenders in the latest year with broad country coverage. It uses World Bank data sourced from SIPRI and reports current U.S. dollars; exchange rates and price levels affect the ranking, which does not measure capability or purchasing power.
What does it show?
The United States spends far more on its military than any other country in current dollars.
Methodology
The ten largest country or economy observations in World Bank indicator MS.MIL.XPND.CD for the latest year with at least ten reported economies, sourced by the World Bank from SIPRI's Military Expenditure Database. World Bank regional, income-group, and world aggregates are excluded using the API's country metadata. Values are divided by one billion and sorted from highest to lowest. Current U.S. dollars are appropriate for this single-year scale comparison but do not measure purchasing power or real military capability; exchange rates and source revisions can change ranks.
