Office Obsolescence Ratio
This chart compares U.S. data-center construction spending with the General, Financial, and residual Other office components in the same detailed Census construction workbook. It is best read as a ratio of competing building priorities, not a direct measure of office values, vacancy, floor area, or completed capacity.
What does it show?
America now spends more building homes for machines than offices for people: data-center construction passed office construction in November 2025 and ran 44% above it by June 2026.
Methodology
Monthly private data-center construction spending from Census C30 divided by the sum of the General office, Financial, and residual Other office components in the same detailed C30 workbook. Both numerator and denominator are seasonally adjusted annual rates and may be revised.
