China's annual births
This chart shows annual births in China from 1950 through 2050, separating historical UN estimates from the medium projection. It uses the UN World Population Prospects 2024 bulk dataset; the projection is a demographic scenario, and the estimates incorporate national submissions alongside other evidence.
What does it show?
China’s annual births have fallen dramatically and are projected to remain near historic lows.
Methodology
UN World Population Prospects medium-variant demographic-indicators bulk CSV. The chart selects ISO3 code CHN and the annual Births field, which is published in thousands, and divides by 1,000 to show millions. The red line shows UN estimates from 1950 through 2023. The muted dashed line repeats the 2023 boundary value for continuity and then shows the UN medium projection from 2024 through 2050. These are UN estimates and projections informed by national and other demographic inputs, not a measurement independent of Chinese statistics.
