AI usage by occupation

By Dror Poleg

This chart ranks occupational groups by observed AI usage in Anthropic’s Economic Index. It summarizes the latest usable occupation-level release and reflects activity within the Claude sample, not the percentage of each occupation that can be automated or a forecast of job losses.

AIWork
What does it show?

AI use is concentrated in knowledge work, with computer and mathematical occupations leading the observed sample.

Methodology

The eight highest occupational-group values parsed from the latest usable Anthropic Economic Index occupation-level dataset (file: labor_market_impacts/job_exposure.csv). Values at or below 1.5 are interpreted as proportions and converted to percentages. Files with degenerate values or task-like rather than occupation-like labels are rejected. This ranks observed usage in the released Claude sample; it is not a forecast or a measure of all AI use.
